Because the SMSL PL20 model is new, I was initially somewhat fearful that I might be disappointed, but those fears proved unfounded. The package arrived in my mailbox from China only eight days after my order. The seller messaged me twice during that period to first provide an update about the status of the package in shipping and then to ask if I had received the unit which they showed as delivered. The box arrived undamaged, wrapped securely in bubble wrap. The form of the PL20 CD player is pleasingly minimal and appears to be very well constructed: heavy enough to sit securely on its four rubber feet without sliding. I just received this and will update this review if necessary. So far, everything functions at least as well as hoped. (I'm using it primarily as a CD transport connected to an external DAC.) It comes with a remote control, requiring two AAA batteries. As the seller indicates, a USB power cable (B to C) is provided, and you must connect it to a powered port or purchase an inexpensive 5V/2A wall charger. Many appropriate wall chargers are available through Amazon--some for less than $5. As you probably know from the product description, the PL20 comes with far more functionality than you would expect for the price, including bidirectional Bluetooth 5.3, an analog RCA output, and two digital outputs (coaxial and optical). The device is capable of independently ripping a CD to lossless WAV files by attaching a USB flash drive (up to 256 GB) to a port on the rear of the unit. It will also play files stored on a flash drive. A small user manual is included, and the instructions are succinct and clear. (You may need a magnifying glass, though, to read the manual, as the font is small.) Most of the the seven buttons on the front panel have dual functions activated respectively through short or long presses; the functions are also conveniently duplicated on the remote control. 3.5 mm and 4.4 mm headphone jacks on the rear of the unit with volume adjustments made via two front buttons make the PL20 potentially a standalone device for both wired or wireless headphone users. The device even can decode DSD and DSF files through either the USB or reading directly from CDs. Lastly, the small blue LED front display shows track number and elapsed time of the track."
